A new church serving the Hispanic Community of the Santa Clarita Valley

“But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.”

Ephesians 4:15-16

Our Vision

We envision a Christ-centered congregation that reflects the beauty and diversity of our Latino heritage while participating fully in God’s mission of reconciliation. Iglesia de Las Américas aspires to be a place of spiritual renewal and hope — where individuals and families encounter the Gospel in their language and culture, grow in faith through study and fellowship, and engage in ministries that bring healing and empowerment to the broader community. Our vision is to raise a new generation of believers equipped to share the good news of Jesus Christ across cultural, economic, and generational boundaries.

Our Mission

Iglesia de Las Américas exists to proclaim the transforming love of God revealed in Jesus Christ and to embody that love through a vibrant community of faith that welcomes, nurtures, and serves our Hispanic neighbors in the Santa Clarita Valley. We seek to cultivate disciples who love God with heart, mind, and strength, and who act with compassion and justice in the world. We strive to be a church where worship is joyful, relationships are authentic, and service is a natural expression of gratitude for God’s grace.

Our Process

The formation of Iglesia de Las Américas is the fruit of prayer, discernment, and partnership among local Presbyterians committed to extending Christ’s witness in the Santa Clarita Valley. Our process involves three stages: Gathering, as we connect with families and individuals seeking a spiritual home; Forming, as we build leadership grounded in Scripture and guided by Presbyterian polity; and Sending, as we engage our neighbors through worship, education, and service initiatives trusting that God is at work making all things new.

Our Church Schedule

Sundays at 5:00 PM- Worship Service
Thursdays at 7:00 PM- Discipleship Classes
Fridays at 7:00 PM- Bible Studies

A Multigenerational Church

We have a very active youth ministry that is primarily conducted in English. Ssince most of our young people are perfectly bilingual, they participate in the different small groups. We plan to incorporate simultaneous interpretation of our services into English to expand the leadership of new generations in worship.

Our church is working hard to retain the children of the Spanish-speaking parents and members of the second generation by establishing smaller, more intimate gatherings as millennials and others seek tighter connections and groups. They gather through dozens of small meetings under some form of shared leadership, with contemporary preaching, teaching, and worship in English.

The goal of our church is to be a bicultural, bilingual, and multigenerational community. We are intentionally engaging youth and young adult issues as we want to be strong bridge builders to find a way to get through the social media and digital technology that occupy such a dominant part their attention and help lead more faith-centered lives.

Our Ministry Philosophy

EVANGELISM:

Reaching others for Christ is the purpose that drives our church — from the use of our facilities to the implementation of programs, the structure of the meetings and services.

Developing and producing mature followers of Christ.

The concept of a community of believers is essential to God’s plan for His church. The Bible uses the following words as apt descriptors for the church: people, body, household, and family. It’s evident from Scripture that God wants the Church to grow and mature within a community of unity and togetherness.

This passage also points out that a tangible commitment to the church is what the Lord intends. He doesn’t want only a select few of His followers to do their part while most other church attendees sit on the sidelines uninvolved. The church is at its best when every believer is devoted to mission.

Serving the Lord is the center of our church’s programming and functions. This passage makes clear that God wants each believer to actively serve Him by ministering to others in and through their local church. Obviously, when a person puts their faith and trust in Christ is when the process of service begins.

The result of the local church operating as Christ intended is that the church will grow, both spiritually and numerically. The Bible is clear that God wants each of the Church to intentionally, actively, and faithfully share their faith with others. However, evangelism is to be done through the church where those who come to Christ can grow in Him and participate in the church’s mission.

Ministry Reach

Although our primary place of gathering for the last two years has been the facilities of First Presbyterian Church in Newhall, we undertake our ministry primarily through small groups that gather in homes.

Our congregation is made up of people with backgrounds from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua y Guatemala, Peru, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. Mostly of the children and youth are born here in the United States.
